Zimbabwe to hold Miss Albinism beauty pageant

Zimbabwe is set to hold its inaugural Miss Albinism beauty pageant in an effort to fight stigma associated with the condition.
According to Brenda Mudzimu, founding director of People Living with Albinism Zimbabwe, the contest will be held on November 17 in Harare.
In an interview, she said a total of 15 finalists will represent different parts of the country. The theme will be “Beauty Beyond Skin.”
She said: “I was inspired to come up with this pageant because I have great passion of mentoring and nurturing confidence among people living with albinism and to create opportunities for them.”
She added that the contest will help to reduce stress and low self-esteem among people with albinism.
Mudzimu said: “The theme aims to show and celebrate the beauty and intelligence that is beyond the skin. I am sure this will help change people’s perceptions about us and accept us in society just like everyone else.”
The ultimate plan is to make the pageant an annual event, she said. Organizers have also approached sponsors to make it a success. Miss Albinism Zimbabwe Trust.
